REFUGE NATIONAL DOMESTIC ABUSE HELPLINE WEBSITE

WUNDERMAN THOMPSON UK

With 1.6 million women having experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2019 and a devastating two women a week reportedly killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales alone, domestic abuse is one of the biggest issues facing women and children in the UK.

Refuge knows this only too well. They run the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline, as well as specialist frontline services that support more than 6,500 women and children subjected to abuse on any given day. Refuge turned to Mirum to help it design a brand-new web platform for its National Domestic Abuse Helpline, as part of its digital transformation of the service. Refuge's expert Helpline advisers provide free, confidential emotional and practical support for any women experiencing domestic abuse; Mirum's challenge was to design and develop an online space that gave survivors further ways to get in touch, as well as clearly presented information on domestic abuse, for those not yet ready to pick up the phone.

Mirum invested over 1,300 hours in understanding the needs of survivors, defining the website requirements, designing and then building the site all in close collaboration with Refuge domestic abuse experts. The site was launched in December 2019, with the build supported by Sitecore.
